I’ve just come back from a fabulous time playing at the Carnaval D’Evolène in the Swiss Alps.
This was my second visit to Evolène as I played there last summer with the full Absolutely Legless dance troupe at Célébrations Interculturelles de la Montagne à Evolène (CIME). This was an international folklore festival, and included dance troupes from all over the world, including Bulgaria, Turkey and Mexico. It is such a beautiful place, and I will never forget sitting in the hot sun in a tiny village called Arolla right up in the mountains, playing music on a bright yellow stage with the most incredible backdrop you can imagine.
Our performances at CIME went down so well that the band were invited back separately for the Carnaval. It was such a privilege and a pleasure to go back to this beautiful region, where during our two visits we have made so many good friends. We toured the bars of Evolène for a week, playing tunes and singing songs, and generally having the time of our lives. One of the big highlights this time was playing on top of the ski slopes in the snow and brilliant sunshine. The chairlift was a bit hairy for the likes of a height-phobic person like me, but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!
Thank you Evolène for inviting us back, we hope to visit you again!
