Bev is a tutor at the Folk First music project in Barrow-in-Furness, which started life as a Folk Academy (an Arts Council-funded project led by Luke Daniels of Gael Music) in 2017. The project aims to teach and support school children in Barrow to learn to play folk music and participate in an ensemble. Now headed by Carolyn Francis, the Folk First project has gone from strength to strength, with participating children and young people developing high standards of musicianship and taking part in performances at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston and The Forum in Barrow during 2019 and 2020.
Bev also works as a freelance music teacher for Cumbria Music Service, delivering tin whistle taster classes, small group flute and whole class flute tuition. She holds enhanced DBS clearance and a Level 1 Safeguarding and Child Protection certificate through Cumbria County Council.
She is able to deliver talks and presentations to children about folk music, and can offer taster classes for primary aged children on tin whistle.
